DIY Fabric Covered Shoes

Have any of you ever tried to cover a pair of shoes with fabric? I love this idea! I think I've given all my "I don't wear these anymore" items to the thrift store though. Maybe it's time to take a trip inside the thrift store to buy back a pair of "test shoes"!
The inspiration (I want these!):

Blessing Dress, Round 2

Remember this dress? Well this is actually dress #2! A sweet new mom of a darling adopted baby girl contacted me and asked if I would make one for her, and so here it is. I made this one about an inch and a half longer than version 1, because my original was barely long enough. And that's what I've been up to lately.

Even though I've made this dress before, I was still a little intimidated, so it took me a while. Making something for myself, I don't mind raw edges on the inside, and if something is a tad off here or there, but making it for someone else, I wanted it to be perfect. And since I don't really have a pattern, I was so afraid of messing up. But it turned out great. Phew. Pin It

Embellished Socks

How cute are these embellished socks?!

I just saw some grey & salmon striped socks at Forever 21 (sorry, can't find them on the website) that would be fun to do this with.

Military T-shirt DIY

Does everyone know what DIY stands for? I had someone ask me that once. Do-It-Yourself.
So here's a DIY that's as easy as one-two-three... four.
This idea came about from seeing 45 seconds of the show Cougar Town one night. One of the girls had on a pink slouchy T-shirt with basically this pattern of military design on it. I've had this green shirt that's a bit too tight, and this seemed like a good update and a way to mask the too-tightness.

So here's what you'll need:
One T-shirt; about 1/16 if a yard of fleece, flannel, or felt; 8 buttons (mine are antiqued gold color)

Step 1. Cut.
Cut 4 equally sized strips of your fleece/flannel/felt. (I recommend creating a simple pattern for yourself using wax or parchment paper. Or wrapping paper. Or anything.)

Step 2. Pin.
Put on your shirt and decide where you want your top strip and bottom strip to sit. Loosly pin those two on and carefully remove the shirt (and put on another one). Lay the shirt flat and now adjust your top and bottom strips so they are level, and pin in place. Evenly space the middle 2 strips and pin in place.

Step 3. Sew.
With strips in place, sew them onto the t-shirt, stitching around the outside edges.

Step 4. Buttons.
With a needle and thread, sew on your buttons, one at each end of each strip.
That's it! You're done! Now go show off your new shirt (and send me pictures!).

Kate Spade and Cake

I think Kate Spade would have liked Ava's birthday cake.

Do you see that the colors are pretty much exactly the same? Okay, so "pretty much exactly" might not be a real concept, but you get the point. Pin It

If I had a dog...

If I had a dog, this is what it would be wearing. It's almost worth getting a dog, just to put it in one of these coats.

Coven

Loving these printed chunky boots from Brazilian company Coven.
Wish I looked this sassy in a hoodie.

Lovely dress. And hair. Maybe I'll do that cut next. Would I have to wear heavy eye makeup to make it look good? I'm too low maintenance to keep that up.

Anthro Scarf Cardi

So back in December, while Christmas shopping, I saw this Scarf Trick Sweater at Anthropologie, one of my favorite stores. To me, it was a little bit too literal. A scarf weaved through the button-holes of a sweater. (How dare I criticize Anthro, I know, but in person it really was!) Plus it was expensive...
So I decided to make my own version using an old satin belt sash I had, and a cardigan I found at Target on clearance for $5. Here is the result.
Basically, I loosly bunched the sash, pinned it down, and stitched all over in a random non-pattern. It's a little bit of a different look, but I still like it (though I prefer the shape of the Anthro sweater). Pin It

Pillowcase Dress

You may recognize this dress, since I've posted an un-modeled picture of it before. (See previous post here and here). Now you get to see it modeled. I guess I made the shoulders a little wide. How could I have known? She's my first baby. A lady at church told me she wanted one in her size. That made me happy. And isn't that a beautiful blanket she's on? Ryan's mom made it for her. Pin It

Fresh Steps

These shoes were in the D.I. box, until I saw some super cute shoes on some site I no longer recall. But it gave me an idea. These shoes may have a little life in them yet!

Peasant Top Magic

So the cute gal at Presser Foot has made some very cute variations of this McCall's Peasant Top. I want one! Or two or three or four! Perhaps I will invest in this pattern, since these tops would work with my growing belly.

The Lunch Date Blouse GIVEAWAY!!!!

Ok, before you read this you have to promise to give it to me if you win it. A beautiful blouse by Kathleen Dougherty of Grosgrain. If I don't win it, I wonder if I could make something similar? If I did, I don't think I could give it away... Don't you think it looks so Anthropologie?

Baby's Formal Wear

Ruffles and tuxedo shirts are in for women, but here's a tuxedo onesie for the little ones. Finished it up today. (And sorry for the not-so-great photos). I think it'd be real cute for a wedding. Tuxedo onsie is available in my Etsy store (size 0-3 months). Blue linen pinstripe fabric.
