Ava Earns Her Stripes

And so we had a striped theme for her First Birthday party! It started with this striped invitation:

And every birthday girl needs a party hat. (Made with paper and mini-pom-pom trim).
And a birthday suit, with stripes, of course! (Made with grograin ribbons).

I made an 8-layer striped cake, served with rainbow sherbet and/or neopolitan ice cream.
And Ava dove right in, face first.

VERY fun! Ava is adorable. The cake is amazing. And I LOVE the table with the yellow legs! Ava looks so cute with her party hat on.

Totally adorable! I can't believe Ava is already one. Did you follow a particular recipe for your striped cake? I've seen this once before and thought it would be fun to try.

I actually just used 3 box mixes for the cake. I think the Pillsbury white (with pudding) was better than the Duncan Hines. I divided each batter into 3 bowls, colored them, and baked each in a round cake pan. I melted chocolate discs and lightly smeared between layers to help them stick together. I ruined one of the layers in the process, which is why it was only 8 layers instead of 9. Hope that helps!
